Mattina
Queer-led Italian coffee, comfort food and community in MediaCity
About
What to expect
A queer-led, LGBTQ+ friendly Italian café and deli in MediaCity, serving strong coffee, house-made focaccia, lasagne, cannoli and brunch with a genuine neighbourhood feel.
Mattina is an independent, queer-led and LGBTQ+ friendly Italian café and deli in the heart of MediaCity, Salford. Formerly known as Blanconero, the business has grown from a much-loved local coffee spot into a bright, welcoming destination with a strong sense of community. Its owners refreshed the brand as Mattina in 2025, while keeping the Italian character, warm hospitality and food that built its following. The menu centres on Italian comfort food done with care: strong espresso, freshly made focaccia, generous lasagne, cannoli, pastries and brunch dishes, alongside selected Italian deli products. Mattina has become particularly known for its lasagne and daily-changing focaccia, while its relaxed, light-filled space makes it just as easy to drop in for coffee as it is to settle in for lunch. Community is a big part of the place. Mattina has hosted creative workshops and local collaborations, and the owners describe the café as a space built around regulars and people coming back week after week. The venue is also dog-friendly. You can also find Mattina out and about beyond MediaCity, including at Campfield Market in Manchester on Saturdays, bringing its food and coffee to one of the city's biggest weekly independent markets.
